Guidelines for Freelance Writers

Minnesota Medicine publishes stories written by freelance writers in each issue. These stories are assigned by the editors and relate to the month’s theme.

Queries

Minnesota Medicine does accept query letters from freelance writers. Ideas should be of interest to Minnesota physicians and directly relate to a particular month’s theme. (Please keep in mind that we assign stories approximately two months prior to the date of publication.)

Please review recent issues of Minnesota Medicine to get a sense of content possibilities, and the tone and length of stories. Describe the style of the proposed piece, the perspective or angle, and outline what you’d like to cover. Please include writing samples if this is your first query.

Manuscript Preparation

All manuscripts should be submitted electronically as Microsoft Word documents. Please retain a copy for your reference. On the cover page, list your name, mailing address, daytime phone number, and e-mail address. Also, include a list of your sources and their phone numbers and e-mail addresses.

Manuscripts should be submitted via e-mail to the assigning editor.
